Mountain High, Valley Low

"The height of the mountaintop is measured by the dismal drudgery of the valley..."

Oswald Chambers - My Utmost For His Highest

God is on the mountaintop. But it is an interesting thought to determine the height of the mountain by how deeply mired you are in the valley. When you are on the mountaintop all looks bright and fresh and clean. You feel His presence, you can feel yourself faithfully following Jesus.

But in the valley things can get dark and dirty pretty quickly. You need Christ desperately but you wonder if He is with you anymore. If you are not feeling a closeness to the Lord, it is you who have turned away not Him. Turn back, and you will find Him walking alongside you still.

You climb back towards the mountaintop, you feel stronger in the light, you are glad you are making it out. But remember who got you back on the track to the way up.

God is as strong in the valley as on the mountaintop. Otherwise, you would not have been able to start the climb back up again.
